Robert W. Gilliland
Robert W. Gilliland, 93, passed away 12:19 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at his home in Mifflintown.
Born on March 12, 1925, in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Charles and E. Mabel (Callahan) Gilliland. Surviving is his wife, Dorothy J. “Dottie” (Lehman) Gilliland, whom he married on Aug. 23, 1980.
Also surviving are: four children, Jeannie Kalin and husband, Michael, of Lewistown, Barry Gilliland and wife, Jill, of Dayton, Ohio, Susan Bohn and husband, “T”, of Gilbertsville, and Jackie Swartwood and husband, Ed, of East Waterford; three stepchildren, Mary Fisher and husband, Brett, of Millerstown, Rich Fisher and wife, Kim, of Mifflintown, and Nevin Fisher and wife, Beth, of Mexico; nine grandchildren, and six stepgrandchildren.
The last of his family, Robert was preceded in death by: a son, Michael Gilliland; one sister; and two brothers.
After retiring from the Standard Steel Corp. in Burnham, where he worked with weights and measures, he was then employed with Skills of Central PA and later on at Kmart for 20 years.
A World War II veteran, Robert proudly served in the U.S. Army,
Mr. Gilliland was a member of the Arch Rock United Methodist Church and most recently attended the River Church in Mifflintown.
He was a former scout leader for Troop No. 60 of Mifflintown.
His graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at the New Church Hill Cemetery in Port Royal, with Pastors Bob and Debbie Landis officiating.
Military services will be conducted by the Juniata County Veteran’s Council.
Arrangements are under the care of Rex Funeral Home in Port Royal.
