Shirley I. Hoover

Shirley I. Hoover, 79, of Church Street, Newton Hamilton, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018 at her home.

Born Jan. 11, 1939, in Atkinson Mills, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin I. and Dorothy F. (Boone) Matthews. Her husband, Howard S. Hoover, whom she married May 19, 1956, survives.

Also surviving are: five children, Judy D. Harshbarger and husband, Ronald, of Atkinson Mills, Kathleen A. Klouser and husband, Clint, of Elizabethville, Jeffrey H. Hoover and wife, Ginger, of Atkinson Mills, Janet S. Lancaster and husband, John, of New Paris, and Kristene H. Smith and husband, Rodney, of Sewickley; seven siblings, Charles Matthews and wife, Betty, of Atkinson Mills, Robert Matthews and wife, Pauline, of Palmyra, James Matthews and wife, Dot, of Ferguson Valley, Mary Schueck, of Lewistown, Connie Matthews, of Reedsville, Ronald Matthews and wife, Cindy, of Atkinson Mills, and Kenneth Matthews, of Atkinson Mills; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grand- children.

Preceding her in death were three siblings, J. Edward Matthews, Melvin Matthews and Donna Peck.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Church and a member of the Country Crossroads Senior Center.

Shirley had many creative interests and hobbies including gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting, baking, jewelry making, bird watching and flower arranging.

She was a devoted, selfless, and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Brian Myfelt officiating. Interment will be in Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Friday, at the funeral home.
