Richard I. ‘Dick’ Clemmer

Richard I. (Dick) Clemmer went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at the age of 96. He lived in State College in the Atrium at the Village of Penn State and formerly lived in Lewistown, McClure and Glenmoore.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, John G. and Edith V. Clemmer, of Oakmont; an infant daughter, Kathryn; and his two older brothers, John G. and Alwynne E. Clemmer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Kathryn F. Clemmer, who resided with him at the Village of Penn State. He is also survived by: sons, Richard I. Clemmer Jr. and his wife, Virginia B., of Wilmington, Del., and Jonathan G. Clemmer and his wife, Irene L., of Paoli; and six grandchildren, Kate, Andrew, Charity, Peter, Matt and Dave.

Dick was born on Feb. 8, 1922, in Philadelphia and he graduated from Drexel University. He served in the infantry and occupation of Japan during and immediately after World War II. His working life was spent with the Atlantic Refining Company in Philadelphia for 31 years. He was a Christian who was very involved in the church his whole life as an elder, Bible teacher and occasional writer. His interests included playing and watching sports, reading, writing, carpentry, designing (or modifying) homes, restoring antiques, transplanting trees and building dry stone walls around his property in Glenmoore.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at the Village of Penn State, 160 Lions Hill Road, State College, PA 16803, with Rev. Drew Fenstermacher officiating.

Interment will take place at Mt. Rock Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018.
