Stephen M. ‘Mountain Man’ Marker Sr.
Stephen M. “Mountain Man” Marker Sr., 66, of Reedsville, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018.
Born Dec. 5, 1951, in Tuscon, Arizona, he was a son of the late Elizabeth (Dukes) Marker.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by: a son, Stephen M. Marker Jr. and one sister, Alice M. Marker.
Stephen is survived by: his wife, Cindy (Shirk) Marker, of Reedsville, whom he married, May 1, 1971; his father, William E. Marker, of Lewistown; daughter, Heather Sopp and husband, Michael, of Wellsville; two grandchildren, Stephen M. Sopp and wife Ashley, Hannah Sopp; three great-grandchildren, Addy, Lily and Easton Sopp; siblings, Rose M. (Marker) Riden and husband, Wayne, of Milroy, Mary L. Snook and husband, Bradley, of Milroy, Carol S. McClenahen and husband, Gary, of Reedsville, Linda K. Folk, of Lewistown, Gregory J. Marker, of Burnham, Thomas E. Marker and wife, Sheri, of Reedsville.
He was a graduate of Kishacoquillas High School, Class of 1970.
As a teen, Stephen worked for the State Forestry at Greenwood. He loved being outdoors and liked to hunt, fish and take walks at Coopers Gap.
In his earlier years, he served seven years in the National Guard out of Hershey. Stephen worked as head of the frozen food department at the Giant store for 50 years and was fondly known as “Pap” by his co-workers. He enjoyed a vacation to Nevada to visit family and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and special times with grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at the new Reedsville Fire house, 7740 SR 655 South, Reedsville, PA 17084.
A private graveside service will be held at Juniata Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the care of Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
