Vivian B. Hassinger
Vivian B. Hassinger, 96, of 1406 Blue Mountain Parkway, Harrisburg, passed away on May 14, 2018, at her home.
Born June 18, 1921, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late F. William and Marian M. (Peters) Steffey. She was united in marriage to A. Therman Hassinger on Aug. 9, 1947, and he preceded her in death on May 31, 1995.
Surviving are: a son, William S. Hassinger and his companion, Ann Reigle, of Palmyra; three grandchildren, Kyle Hassinger, Sarah Stiemling and Cali Hassinger, as well as two great-grandchildren, Liam and Gabby Stiemling; and a sister, Eleanore Rachau of Belleville. Along with her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Norman Steffey.
Vivian was a 1943 graduate of the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated as a registered nurse. She then became employed at the Lewistown Hospital as the head nurse in the operating room. When her family relocated to the Middleburg area, she became the assistant director of nursing at Manor Care in Sunbury. She retired from there in 1995.
She was Lutheran by faith, a former member of the Retired Nurses Association, and she enjoyed watching baseball and was an avid Phillies fan. She was also a stamp collector and loved to play cards.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belleville, with Pastor Kenneth Longfield officiating. Burial will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday.
