Reverend J. Franklin (Frank) Moist

Reverend J. Franklin (Frank) Moist, 84, of Lewistown, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Born August 7, 1933, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Clair and Madeline (Casner) Moist. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Stanford Moist, Sr. and John Moist, Sr. and nephew John (Eddie) Moist, Jr.

Surviving family members include the following nieces and nephews and their families: Sonja Redifer of Waynesboro, VA; Stanford Moist, Jr. of Hummelstown; Cathy Alesi, Karen Knable and Lisa Harris from the Mount Union area; Terri Miller of Lewistown; Jeffrey Moist, Beth Zong, Michael Moist, Gregory Moist, Lori Stidfole, Jamie Cunningham and Brian Moist from the McVeytown area and numerous generations of nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws, Irma Moist and Ethel Moist, both from the McVeytown area.

Frank graduated from McVeytown Oliver High School in 1950 and Juniata College in 1955. He then attended Drew Theological Seminary and was ordained in 1958. He served as a chaplain at Altoona Hospital and then the McVeytown Presbyterian Church from 1971 to 1980.

Reverend Moist moved to Long Island, NY where he served until returning to Mifflin County in the early 2000’s. He provided pulpit supply for Mount Union Presbyterian and a number other churches in the area until the summer of 2017.

One of Frank’s passions was collecting antiques, particularly china sets, crystal and ornate lamps of all shapes and sizes. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed history, biographies and autobiographies.

Receiving of friends and family will be from 10 to 11 am, Monday, April 23, 2018, at Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E 3rd St, Lewistown, PA 17044, with a funeral service to follow at 11 am. Reverend Robert Zorn will be officiating, assisted by Reverend Scott Andrews.

Interment will be held at Juniata Memorial Park.
