Dorothy M. Sankey

Dorothy M. Sankey, 85, of McAlisterville, died at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

Born on January 14, 1933, in Fermanagh Twp., Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Effie M. (Goshorn) Hower. On June 23, 1956, she married her late husband, Paul M. Sankey, with whom she shared nearly 45 years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on February 28, 2001.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Knepp and her husband Brian, of McClure, Brenda Sankey, of Dauphin; a brother, Larry Hower and his wife Ruth, of Mifflintown; 2 granddaughters, Andrea Imes and her husband Justin, Stacey Campbell and her husband Brad, and 3 great grandchildren, Evitt Campbell, Tori Campbell and Dara Imes.

Four brothers, Wayne Hower, George Hower, Melvin Hower, Donald Hower and three sisters, Lillian Gross, Mary Winey and Helen Dysinger, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sankey was a 1951 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, where she was a long-time member of the choir.

In earlier life, she worked at the L. Shellenberger Sewing Factory, McAlisterville and later until her retirement, she was employed as the assistant dietician and cook for Brookline Manor, Mifflintown.

Dorothy enjoyed singing, tending to her flowers and gardens, as well as traveling with her husband Paul on bus trips. She cherished the time that she spent with her family and will be remembered for her baking and cooking talents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with Pastor Jodi Strawser officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from the funeral home.
