Amanda Marinos Karakantas

Amanda Marinos Karakantas passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018.

She was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Selinsgrove, to John and Stella Marinos. At the age of 6, she and her family moved from Sunbury to Lewistown, where her parents owned and operated the Diana Candy Shoppe. Amanda began working in the family business at the age of 12 and continued working there most of her adult life along side her brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Carolyn Marinos, respectively.

Amanda graduated from Lewistown High School in 1941. She was married to Theodore Karakantas in July of 1951, who passed away in June of 1984. After her retirement from the Diana Candy Shoppe, she moved to Ithaca, N.Y. in 1994 to be closer to her son and his family. She was a faithful member of St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church and Philoptochos.

She is survived by: her devoted children, Paul and Katherine Karakantas; beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren Adamandia (Dia) and Greg Ruocco, Isadora and Theodore, Demitra Karakantas and Larry Abolaji, and Apollo and Kingston; and nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Carolyn Marinos.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the giving staffs of Longview and Oak Hill Manor.

Calling hours are at noon and funeral services at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral services will be officiated with the Very Reverend Archimandrite Seraphim Poulos.
