Josephine I. ‘Joy’ Longenecker Walters

Josephine I. ‘Joy’ Longenecker Walters, 91, formerly of McAlisterville and Port Royal, passed away 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

Born on Feb. 6, 1926 in Denholm, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Ida (Rapp) Leonard Sr.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, John P. Longenecker and Russell B. Walters.

Surviving are: four children, Sandra K. Roush, of Marysville; Sharon D. Eaton, of Port Royal; John R. “Butch” Longenecker and wife, Bonnie, of Las Vegas; and Sherry R. Berrier and husband, Dan, of Port Royal; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and several great- great-grandchildren.

Joy, the youngest girl of 15 siblings, was the last of her immediate family.

Formerly, Joy worked at the Rae-Sel Corp., in Port Royal. She later retired from Empire Kosher Poultry Inc., in Mifflintown.

She was a member of the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church in McAlisterville.

Her funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018 at the Rex Funeral Home, in Port Royal, with the Rev. Graham C. Fowler officiating.

Interment will follow at New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

There will be no viewing.
