Stephen Bruce Heller

Stephen Bruce Heller, 70, of Elkton, Va., went to be with Jesus on Oct. 17, 2017, at his home after a two year battle with cancer.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1946, in Bronx, N.Y., and was the son of the late Jonas and Florence Kantor Heller.

He received his former schooling in New York City and later graduated from the Downstate University of New York with a PhD in Psychology.

Dr. Heller’s work included teaching in high school and medical school, as well as being a counselor in mental health and drug rehabilitation. He also had a heart for the less fortunate and assisted in various programs for the homeless.

On March 28, 2010, he married Linda Susan Renno, who survives.

In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by: his brother, David Heller and wife, Sheila, and their children, Marc Heller and wife, Robin, and their children, a daughter, Shelby Seidner and husband, Scott and their children.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, Va. A funeral service will be held at the at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with viewing at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at the Shenandoah Valley Mennonite Cemetery on Berrytown Road in Elkton. The Shenandoah Valley Mennonite Church will conduct the service.
