Born Nov. 5, 1940, in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late Doran K. and Grace (Stetler) Houtz.

She is survived by: her husband of 56 years, James R. “Jim” McLaughlin, whom she married Aug. 12, 1961; two sons, Steven J. “Steve” McLaughlin and wife, Christine, of Mifflintown and John P. McLaughlin and wife, Rhonda, of Mifflin; four grandchildren, Katie, Neil, Grace and Jim; one sister, Nancy Wenger and husband, Ben, of Quarryville; and one brother, Keith Houtz and wife, Anne, of Dillsburg.

Luella graduated from Juniata Joint High School and took several courses at the Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a teller and bookkeeper at the Juniata Valley Bank in Mifflintown until 1966, when she became a full-time homemaker to raise her children and care for her family.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Nook, where she was financial recording secretary and served on the altar guild. She was a former member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Mifflintown, where she was active in the church, with the Sunday school and with the youth group for many years.
