Dr. James E. Xanthopoulos

Dr. James E. Xanthopoulos, 91, of Lewistown, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Ohesson Manor.

Born June 11, 1926, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late James E. Xanthopoulos Sr. and Selma (Thomas) Xanthopoulos.

He is survived by: his wife, Vickie (Hampson) Xanthopoulos; and his children, James W. Xanthopoulos and his wife, Jean, of Lewistown, Jane Gasman, of Paris, Judy Xanthopoulos and her husband, Darryl Haley, of Maryland, John D. Xanthopoulos and his wife, Natalie, of Lewistown, Michael J. Xanthopoulos and his wife, Liza, of Washington, D.C.; his grandchildren, Josie Xanth- opoulos and Brett Rogers and Julie Xanthopoulos and Brian Quinlan, Taylor Gasman, Katie and James (Jack) Xanthopoulos; great- grandchildren, Vann and Jaxxon Rogers, Delilah and James Quinlan; he is also survived by a sister, Lillian Neri of Roxborough.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Edward and Fred Xanthopoulos and Margarite Damsky.

Dr. Xanthopoulos was a graduate of E.L. Myers High School in Wilkes- Barre (1944), Lafayette College (1949), and Pennsylvania College of Osteopathic Medicine (1957). He completed an internship at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital (1958).

Dr. Xanthopoulos served as chief of staff at F.W. Black’s Hospital for several years and president of medical and dental staff at Lewistown Hospital from 1983 to 1985. He served the local community over the course of a 44-year career in family medicine, and his practice served as the foundation for Family Health Associates. He was last employed as medical director at the William Penn Nursing Home in Lewistown.

He was a member of the Fairview Bible Church and a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association. He enjoyed all kinds of sports and especially loved golfing at the Lewistown Country Club. He enjoyed baking, gardening, painting, medicine, and most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Per his wishes, there will be no services.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Barr Funeral Home and Crematory, 120 Logan St., Lewistown.
