Erika Apolonia Bailey

Erika Apolonia Bailey, 73, of 11200 Snack Drive, Mill Creek, passed away at 4:50 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Meadowview Nursing Center in Berlin, Pa.

Born April 26, 1944 in Stierbach, Hessen, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Nikolaus and Margaretha (Leinberger) Schmidt.

On Dec. 29, 1961 in Babenhausen, Germany, she married James E. Bailey, who survives at home.

She is also survived by her children James E. Bailey Jr. and wife Brenda of Milroy, Nicole E. Hicks and husband Toby of Mount Union, John D. Bailey and wife Nancy of Huntingdon, Jeffrey W. Bailey and wife Graciela of Yuma, Ariz. and Jerry E. Bailey and companion Pamela Ayers of Huntingdon; brothers Karlheinz Schmidt and Walter Schmidt, both of Germany; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Waite and a great-grandson Isiah Romecki.

She had been a member of Ardenheim Independent Brethren Church.

Erika had worked as a cook at Miller’s Diner in Mill Creek and ran a transportation service for J.M. Wood Products.

She enjoyed gardening, all animals, knitting, crocheting and classical music. She also loved her family and her Lord and supported various religious organizations.

Her funeral will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Robert E. Peters Funeral Home in Huntingdon with the Rev. Harold Sharp officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Sunday.

Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Mill Creek.
