Evelyn M. ‘Pinkie’ Barton

Evelyn M. “Pinkie” Barton, 94, of Mifflin, who formerly lived in Honey Grove, Florida and Carlisle, passed away, Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Locust Grove Retirement Village.

Born March 13, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John and Pearl (Clark) Simonton. Her husband, John C. Barton, died on June 15, 1997.

She is survived by five children, Nancy Crowe and husband, Robert, of Kennett Square, Betsy Long of Mifflin, John “Jack” Barton and companion, Victoria Doyle, of Waynesboro, Pat Whitzel and husband, Paul, of Carlisle, and Charles “Bill” Barton and wife, Donna, of Florida; 10 grandchildren, Allison, Rob, Stephen, Anthony, Karen, Kevin, Paula, Tanya, Jeannette and Christopher; and 16 great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Brendan, Adam, Shelby, Tyler, Travis, Nichol, Cody, Austin, Nevin, Grace, Matthew, Daniel, Kevin, James and John.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Betty Simonton, son-in-law, Darwin B. Long, daughter-in-law, Lois Barton; grand- daughter-in-law, Cindy (Gray) Long and great- grandson, Trey Disque.

Evelyn worked for a time in a sewing factory and at McCoy’s Electronics, but mostly she was a hardworking farmwife who gardened, helped her husband with chores and raised her family. She loved her family and they were very important to her. She looked forward to visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, puzzles and playing dominoes.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 24, at Guss Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Merv Yoder officiating. Interment will be in McCoysville Cemetery.

There will be a viewing from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Saturday at the funeral home.
