Dr. John Joseph Fuoco

Dr. John Joseph Fuoco, 61, of Lewistown, went into the loving arms of Jesus, on June 17, 2017, after a long and courageous struggle with cancer.

Born in Bristol, to the late Arthur and Catherine (Ferry) Fuoco, John attended St. Mark’s School, Bishop Egan High School, St. Francis University and the Medical College of Pennsylvania.

After experiencing his own childhood cancer, John fulfilled his dream of becoming a doctor to help others. He worked as a physician in Family Medicine with the Geisinger Medical Group in Mifflin, for over 30 years. He was also the director of Brookline Manor Nursing Home. He had a gentle demeanor toward his patients.

Like his father and brothers, John was an avid bicycle enthusiast. He enjoyed challenging himself mentally and physically with ultra distance bicycle rides and held the Pennsylvania cross-state age group record. He participated in many events all over the world, including the Paris-Brest-Paris, a 1200km ride in France, which he completed twice. He loved seeing his children participate in sporting events, watching the Phillies and following the Tour de France. When he wasn’t working or riding, you would find him with a book in his hands.

John is survived by his wife, Mindi (Dunn) Fuoco, and his children: Danielle Fuoco and husband, Brian Lewis, Anthony Fuoco and wife, Lauren, and Elizabeth Fuoco. In addition, he is survived by his stepson, Darien Knudsen and his grandson, Benjamin Lewis. Also surviving are his siblings: Tom (Julie), Dan (Conchi), Art (Rorie Anderson), and Mary Schmitz (Steven), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

We will forever carry your memory in our hearts and try to emulate the way you always welcomed everyone by making all of us feel as though we were of the utmost importance.
