Lowell James Rogers, 69, of Lewistown and formerly of Mount Union, passed away at 3:36 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2017, in the presence of his family, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born April 21, 1948, in Mount Union, he was a son of the late James and Francis (Grice) Rogers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard “Cookie” Grice.

Left behind to cherish his sense of humor and love are: his wife, Vicki (Bilheimer) Rogers, whom he married July 19, 2014; four children, Raymond Posey and wife, Katrina, of Mount Union, Troy Bilheimer, Mesha Rogers, and Nigel Lowell Rogers and his companion, Brooke Drake, all of Lewistown; five grandchildren; 10 siblings, Darlene Fortson and husband, Willard, Joan Rogers, Phyllis Jean Grice, Terry Rogers and wife, Delynn, and Clyde Rogers, all of Mount Union, Riley Rogers, of Houston, Texas, Eula Rogers and Tracy Newton, both of Ga., Delores Grice, of Harrisburg, and Andrew Rogers and wife, Darlene, of State College; 14 nieces and nephews, and an aunt, Lawanda Rogers, of Springfield, Va.

Lowell graduated from Mount Union Area High School, Class of 1967, where he was on the wrestling team and made it to the state finals. He was also a member of the football team.

He retired from Ford New Holland and was a member of the Yeagertown Firehouse Club.

One of Lowell’s greatest loves was boxing. He won the Kiwanis Central Pennsylvania Golden Gloves title in 1974 and several amateur bouts throughout his career. Another highlight in his life was seeing his son, Nigel Rogers, follow in his footsteps and winning the 2012 and 2015 Pennsylvania State Golden Gloves titles, Police Athletic League National bronze medal, and making it to the 2012 Olympic trials.

An avid biker, Lowell rode motorcycles and bicycles, enjoyed jogging, and was often seen about town. He was also known for his artistic ability.

Perhaps his greatest attribute was in sharing God’s love and helping others. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Rev. Sylvia Morris officiating and Bernard Chatman as guest speaker.

A viewing will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the funeral home.
