Elda Mae Rickenbaugh
Elda Mae Rickenbaugh, 93, of Mifflintown, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born May 28, 1923, in Mifflin, she was the daughter of the late David H. and Julia Ann (Williams) McCahan. Her husband, Paul K. Rickenbaugh, whom she married July 4, 1942, died May 28, 2007.
She is survived by: two children, Nancy Rolain and husband, Mike, and David Rickenbaugh, all of Mifflintown; two grandsons, Jeremy Rolain and wife, Carrie, and Justin Rolain; three great-grandsons, Kyle and Erickson Rolain, and Howie Shehan; one nephew, John McCahan; and one niece, Patricia Cook.
She was the last of her generation, having been preceded in death by: two brothers, John W. McCahan and Jay A. McCahan; one sister, Sara McCahan; and an infant brother, David McCahan Jr. She was also the last of 60 grandchildren of William Bell and Mary Zimmerman McCahan.
She graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1942 and worked as chief clerk for the Juniata County Commissioners from 1960 to 1972.
She was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church and former church council member. She had been past president of American Legion 298 Auxiliary, the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Auxiliary, and the Juniata County Women’s Republican Club. She was a charter member of Juniata County Business and Professional Women’s Club, was the first director of the Heart Association fund drive in Juniata County, and was assistant leader of Messiah Lutheran junior church for 18 years. She was a member and regular participant in activities at the Four Seasons Senior Center.
Elda Mae and her husband were avid golfers, belonged to Lost Creek Golf Course and enjoyed wintering in Florida where they belonged to Clerbrook Golf Course. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle and hand and foot.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Chris Mathiason officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen’s Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services on Thursday at the church.
