J. Elrose Glick
J. Elrose Glick, 86, of 610 Erie Drive, Belleville, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born Jan. 4, 1931, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Nelson D. and Annie B. (Byler) Glick.
His wife, Pauline M. (Horst) Glick, whom he married Oct. 16, 1954, survives.
He is also survived by his children, Steven Fleischer, of Ephrata, and Thomas J. Fleischer, of Newry; grandchildren, Jay Fleischer and wife, Rebecca, Crystal R. Cooper, and Andrew Fleischer and wife, Amanda; nine great-grand- children; brothers and sisters, Dwight A. Glick and wife, Helen, of Reedsville, Orpha J. Glick, of Belleville, Esther M. Glick, of Belleville, Ivan J. Glick and wife, Luella, of Belleville; and sister-in-law, Colleen Hertzler, of Bradenton, Fla.
He was preceded in death by one great-grand- son, Damian Fleischer.
Elrose was a dairy farmer. He served on a number of committees with state and local agencies associated with the preservation and improvement of agriculture, such as the Mifflin County, Pennsylvania and American Farm Bureau boards, Mifflin County and Pennsylvania State Extension Service, the National Cattleman and Beef Association and the Promotion and Education committees for the farm bureau.
He recently received the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award on Nov. 15, 2016, from the Pa. Farm Bureau. He was responsible for orchestrating the third grade agriculture tour in Mifflin County.
He was a member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and song leader. He was a former member of the Big Valley Men’s Chorus and a member of the Spruce Pine Hunting Camp.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church, with Pastors Max Zook and Ivan Yoder officiating. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery following the service.
His family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday, both at the church.
