Willard E. ‘Bill’ Varner III

Willard E. “Bill” Varner III, 73, of Lewistown, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, in the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital emergency room.

Born March 19, 1943, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late John A. Varner and Esther (Goss) Varner.

He is survived by his wife, Susan J. (Loht) Varner, whom he married in 1963; and his siblings, Gilbert Varner, Connie Dulis and Kenard Varner, all of Lewistown.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy L. Varner.

Bill retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years and served in Vietnam, Thailand, Korea and Germany. He was then employed at the U.S. Post Office for 20 years.

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewistown. He was also a member of  the VFW Post 7011, Lewistown, and a life member of the Fame Fire Company, Brooklyn Hose Company, City Fire Company and Yeagertown Fire Company.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at Barr Funeral Home and Crematory, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. James Rill officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
