Fred E. Solt

Fred E. Solt, 72, of McClure, Mifflin County, passed away at 5:08 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born June 12, 1944, at his family home in McClure, he was a son of the late Sara (Gill) and Willis Solt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a daughter, Jennifer Jo Weaver, on Jan. 20, 2015; a brother, John Solt; and sisters, Betty Boreman and Phyllis McMaster.

Fred is survived by: his wife, Rosemary (Hartman) Solt, whom he married on Sept. 21, 1967; children, Fred “Jake” Solt Jr. and wife, Laura, of Palmyra, and Angela Schreck and husband, Jeremy, of Lewistown; four grandchildren, Nathan Weaver and wife, Krista, of Tumwater, Wash., Colton Schreck, of Boiling Springs, Blake Schreck, and Ellary Schreck, both of Lewistown; great-grand- children, Raiden Weaver and Korren Weaver; and siblings, Dorothy Frye and husband, Jack, William Solt and wife, Dang, both of Yeagertown, Robert Solt, of McClure, and Peg Bottorf and husband, Larry, of York.

Fred graduated from Chief Logan High School, Class of 1962.

He was an Army veteran.

He was employed in Machine Shop No. 1 at Standard Steel for 40 years and served as vice president of Local 1940, United Steelworkers union, for many years. He retired in 2006.

Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, gardening and camping.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. David Pennebaker officiating.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park, with military honors by VFW Post 7011.

Memorials in Fred’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
