Lynn C. Phillips

Lynn C. Phillips, 72, of Reedsville, passed away at 5:39 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 at his home.

Born July 4, 1944, in Muncy, he was a son of the late Elizabeth E. (Confer) and Dean L. Phillips.

He is survived by: his wife, Susan (Brown) Phillips, whom he married Nov. 8, 1975; his children, David L. Phillips and fiancee, Nikki Mattern, of Lewistown, Kristen E. Phillips, of Springs Mills, Lori S. Dahlkemper and fiance, Eric Landfried, of Waterford, Eric L. Schrimper, of Pittsburgh; sister, Sara Phillips, of Lancaster, South Carolina; and nine grandchildren, Mina Phillips, Aurora Klinger, Dorian Phillips, Leif Phillips, Jameson Phillips, Cassidy, Lacey, and Carly Dahlkemper and Chloe Schrimper.

Lynn graduated from Muncy High School and Mansfield State College and completed graduate studies in Fine Arts at Penn State University. He also studied at Northwestern University.

Lynn was a music teacher for 42 years, beginning in State College, then Loyalsock Township, before coming to Penn Highlands in 1972, then Chief Logan and finally Lewistown High School, which he retired from in 1999. He was also one of three band directors for the Penn Highlands marching band from 1970 to 1973.

He was raised Episcopalian before transferring his membership to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lewistown, in 2010, where he was the director of choirs, director of music and staff organist for 38 years.

In 2005 Lynn earned the first Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 4 Distinguished Service Award. Throughout his career he also taught music theory, sophomore vocal, general music, elementary and junior high strings and assisted with the marching band.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lewistown with the Revs. James Rill and Gary Roth officiating.

Private interment will take place in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
