Roy Elwood Kearns
Roy Elwood Kearns, 87, of Mifflintown, died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 at Geisinger- Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 29, 1929, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Isabella (Specht) and William R. Kearns.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Esther Joyce (Wagner) Kearns, on Feb. 15, 2016, whom he married Nov. 16, 1954; two children, Christine Ettinger and Lucian Kearns; a sister, Mary Folk; and a brother, George Kearns.
He is survived by: his children, Randy Kearns and Timothy Kearns Sr., both of Lewistown, and Julia Kearns, of McClure; 14 grandchildren; 29 great- grandchildren; 16 great- great grandchildren; and siblings, Norman E. Kearns, Sr., and Barbara K. Hower and husband, Norman, both of Lewistown.
Roy served in the Army from Jan. 11, 1951 to Jan. 8, 1953 during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed as a crane operator at Standard Steel for 38 years.
Roy enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his loved ones.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at the funeral home with Pastor Alan Reiman officiating.
Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy, with military honors provided by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
