Robert L. Rankin
Robert L. Rankin, 90, of Lewistown, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at William Penn.
Born Feb. 9, 1926, in Herminie, Westmoreland County, but he lived all of his life in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Nora (Vanatt) and Frank R. Rankin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael R. Rankin, a brother and four sisters. He was the last of his immediate family.
He is survived by: sons, Daniel L. Rankin, of Lewistown, and Jeffrey C. Rankin and wife, Janet, of Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Stoner and husband, Dave, of Port Royal; four grandchildren, Mackenzie, Michael, Ashley and Lucas; a great-grandchild, Henry; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict and was in the European Theatre.
Earlier in life, he had worked at Royal Dairy and the Viscose and later, worked at McMillin Auto Parts in Lewistown for 40 years, retiring in January of 2000.
He was a member of Grove Memorial Church, Lewistown.
Robert liked working on cars and helped all his neighbors with anything they needed. He was affectionately known as “mayor” of the 300 block.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Karen McCachren officiating.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the funeral home.
Interment with VFW Post 7011 honors will take place in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown.
The family will provide all flowers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Robert’s name may be made to Grove Memorial Church, 611 S. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
