Nellie Peachey Orbin

Nellie Peachey Orbin, 101, formerly of Front Mountain Road, Belleville, died Monday evening, Nov. 28, 2016, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. Born Aug. 4, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Blanche (Carson) Peachey.

A 1932 graduate of  Belleville High School, Nellie worked as a sales clerk at Zimmerman’s store (later Wills store) and as a shipping clerk at Sperry New Holland. On Aug. 2, 1972, she married Jarrold C. Orbin and retired from New Holland with 29 years of service.

In 2006, her husband preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Mrs. Bessie Kauffman, who died in 2001. Survivors include: her niece, Mrs. Ruth Knarr, of Belleville; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Corinne DeRita, of Hummelstown, and Mrs. Susan Bartl, of Vero Beach, Fla.; and multi-generations of stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Nellie will be remembered for her love of laughter and her artistic talent. She enjoyed being in her flower gardens and arranging fresh flowers. She also enjoyed singing, playing organ and piano, painting and making ceramics.  Lasting reminders include ceramics that she made and gave as gifts to family and friends. In St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belleville, Nellie painted a replacement panel of glass in their Martin Luther stained glass window.  She also gifted St. John’s her oil painting of the church building. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s; a member of the Augsburg Sunday school class; a member of Lutheran Church Women (LCW); served on the church council and taught a Sunday school class for children for many years.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at Valley View Haven Chapel with Pastor Gerald Peachey officiating. Burial will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville. Her family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the chapel.
