James A. ‘Jim’ Strawser
James A. “Jim” Strawser, 70, of Richfield, passed away on Thursday morning, Nov. 24, 2016, at his home. Jim was born at home on Jan. 22, 1946, in Susquehanna Township, Juniata County. He was the son of the late David R. and Rhoda M. (Kline) Strawser. On March 18, 1967, he married the former Ethel N. Strawser, who survives. His passing breaks a marital union of 49 years.
Jim attended East Juniata High School.
He was employed at James Julian Construction in Delaware. He also owned and operated with his brother, Amos Strawser, Strawser Brothers Logging and Lumber in Richfield, from where he retired.
Jim was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and was a member of the Oriental Sportsman’s Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, watching NASCAR racing and going on road trips. He formerly played softball. Jim loved to help his family, friends and neighbors.
In addition to his wife, Ethel, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Teresa Goodling, of McAlisterville and Dale Goodling, of Richfield, and Crystal and Kenneth White, of New Market, Md.; five grandchildren: Jordan, Isaiah and Grace Brooks, and Malia and Weston Goodling; eight brothers and sisters: Esther “Anna” Portzline, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Phillip Strauser, of Liverpool, Martha Yetter and her husband, Charles, of Delaware, Orpha Stahr, of Liverpool, Mary Stahr and her husband, Norman, of Liverpool, Amos Strawser and his wife, Jean, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Rhoda Weader, of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Herman Strawser and his wife, Linda, of Richfield; two sisters-in- law, Viola Strawser, of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Alice Strawser, of Selinsgrove.
Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Ann Strawser; three brothers, Lester Strawser, David Strawser and Luke S. Strauser; three sisters-in- law, Edna Strawser, Mildred Strauser and Dorothy Strauser; two brothers-in- law, Alfred Portzline and Charles Stahr; and his father and mother-in-law, Walter and Ruth Strawser.
Honoring Jim’s wishes, the casket will be closed. Friends and family are invited to the visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills. Officiating will be Pastor Brittin F. Stimeling. Burial will be in Richfield Union Cemetery.
