Frederick G. ‘Gil’ Baum
Frederick G. “Gil” Baum, 95, of Edgewater, Fla., went into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Nov. 4, 2016. Gil was born in Newark, N.J., and grew up in East Orange, N.J.
He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 after two years at the Valley Forge Military Academy. He spent 22 years in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot during WWII and the Korean War and later as a weather officer, retiring as a major. While in the service, Gil married Jean Brobst, deceased, with whom he had three children: Susan Baum of New York, N.Y., Judy Ryan, of Reedsville, and Frederick Baum Jr., of Orlando, Fla.
After retirement from military service, he started a career as a purchasing agent with Florida Steel Corporation. In April of 1975, Gil married Elaine Hebert. After retiring in 1983, Gil and Elaine began their many travels across the country in a camper. Some of their favorite places to visit were Bar Harbor, Maine and Maggie Valley, N.C. In addition to his wife, Elaine, Gil is survived by his children and stepchildren; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Gil and Elaine are members of Bella Vista Baptist Church in Edgewater, Fla.
Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Bella Vista Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Sea Pines Cemetery.
