Kathryn Gayman Clark

Kathryn Gayman Clark, 88, of Thompsontown, died at 7:43 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016.

Born on Dec. 5, 1927, in Thompsontown, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Irene (Hepner) Gayman. On July 1, 1950, she married her late husband, Donald L. Clark, with whom she was blessed to share more than 36 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1987.

Surviving are her children: Thomas G. Clark and his wife, Pamela, of Port Royal, David L. Clark and his wife, Lupita Ballesteros, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Kathryn and Meghan Clark, Benjamin, Anna, and Elizabeth Clark, Frida and Jacob Clark; and step granddaughter, Karla Estrada Ballesteros.

A son, Daniel F. Clark, and a brother, J. Franklin Gayman, preceded her in death.

Kathryn was a 1945 graduate of Thompsontown High School and a 1948 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in home economics and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and a member of the treble singers chorus. After graduation, she worked as a dietician at the Student Union Building of the Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind.

Later, she was a past director of the Mifflin- Juniata American Red Cross, had served on the board of the Juniata County Board of Assistance, was instrumental in establishing the first private kindergarten in Thompsontown, helped with Juniata Meals on Wheels and the Juniata Food Pantry. Kathryn served as past president of the Juniata County Republican Women and as a board member of the Pennsylvania Federation of Republican Women.

She was a lifelong member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Thompsontown, where she served as past secretary of the church council, past president of the WELCA, past president of the Altar Guild and had taught Sunday school and church school. She also served as chairman of the Kitchen Committee for many years. Other memberships included the Penn State Alumni Association and the Nittany Lion Club. She was a 50-year member of the Mifflin Chapter No. 260 Order of the Eastern Star.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, from the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Thompsontown, with the Rev. Michael Sigler officiating. Interment will follow in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown.

There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service on Friday at the church.

The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly ask that memorial donations be made in Mrs. Clark’s memory to the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 241, Thompsontown, PA 17094.
