John H. ‘Red’ Mitchell
John H. “Red” Mitchell, 66, of Lewistown, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Geisinger- Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 21, 1950, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Audrey L. (Wolfley) and Clell E. Mitchell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: the love of his life, his wife, Ellen Joanne Mitchell, on Feb. 27, 2016; grandchildren, Blake Mitchell and Randy Beers, Jr.; siblings, Larry E. Mitchell, Judy A. Medley, Raymond L. “Bo” Mitchell, George L. Mitchell, Carol Sue Mitchell; and half-siblings, Clell E. Mitchell Jr., Paul Mitchell, Rose Lee Curtis, and Tina Swineford.
He is survived by: his children, Katherine Duncan, of Lewistown, Audrey Zimmerman and husband, Virgil, of Fairmont, W.Va., and Alfred Mitchell and his companion, Gloria Arnold, of Lewistown; nine grandchildren, Kayla Royer and husband, Timothy, William Duncan Jr, Dustin Jodon and wife, Nicole, Mitchell Jodon and wife, Valerie, Jeremiah Beers, Johnathon Beers, Alexander Zimmerman, Courtnei Arnold, Chase Mitchell; three great- grandchildren, Alexa Jodon, Madison Royer, and Hannah Jodon; and siblings, Gary R. Mitchell, of Yeagertown, and Margaret Habberson, of Lewistown.
Red was employed by Lewistown Borough for 31 years.
He was a founding and devoted life member of the Mifflin County Forest Fire Fighters, enjoyed hunting and fishing, played softball for many years, and was a Philadelphia Eagles fan.
He loved his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.
A receiving of friends will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at Heller- Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park.
