Carolyn Russelle Emerson
LOUISBURG, Kan. – Carolyn Russelle Emerson, 99, formerly of Lewistown, died at 2:15 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, in Louisburg, Kan.
She was born November 1914, on the family farm in the Shenandoah Valley, to Edward R. Glendye and Lola C. (Weaver) Glendye.
Her family moved to Lewistown in 1925. She was a 1932 graduate of Lewistown High School.
She married Richard Emerson, a Yale grad, in 1939. After two boys and a new 11 Sunset Road home, a 1948 promotion started moves to West Hartford, Wellesley, Chicago, Scotch Plains and Lake Winnepesaukee for retirement.
Her brother, Ben Glendye, established Red’s Diner, which stayed in the Glendye family until 2004.
She returned to Lewistown in 1979 to be closer to family. She also enjoyed women’s golf at the Lewistown Country Club. After Richard died in 2002, she moved to Kansas to live with her older son, Richard Jr.
She was preceded in death by: her husband; a son, Stephen; three brothers; and seven sisters.
She is survived by: a son, Richard and his wife, Donna, of Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Huddie Glendye and Gaynelle Glendye, both of Lewistown; and many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service is planned.
