Virginia M. McConnell

WILLIAMSPORT – Virginia M. McConnell, 88, formerly of Loyalsock Township, was called home to the Lord Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital.

Born Nov. 21, 1925, in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late William C. and Rebekah McMillan Love.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas H. McConnell, in 2008.

In her early years, Virginia worked for the Record-Argus newspaper as a proofreader and bookkeeper. In 1966, Virginia and her husband opened their first McDonald’s restaurant on East Third Street in Williamsport. Together, they owned and operated eight McDonald’s in Williamsport, Altoona, Lewistown and Lock Haven. They also developed Cameo Estates, Pinecrest Acres and Poco Hills Estate in Loyalsock Township. Virginia also was involved with house planning and design.

Virginia enjoyed traveling with her husband. She was very outgoing and friendly. Virginia enjoyed socializing and activities at the Williamsport Home. She also enjoyed painting. Her true love was her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Virginia was a member of St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church, the Susquehanock Region Antique Car Club and the Red Hat Ladies.

Surviving are: her children, Charlene K. (Gary) Carson, of Williamsport, Karen S. (David) Eiswerth, of Paradise Valley, Ariz., Thomas R. (Faith) McConnell, of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Lori A. (Mark) Johnson, of Williamsport; 11 grandchildren, Brian and Marlaina Carson, Amie Boocock, Amanda and Chad Eiswerth, Amber Bardis, Emily and Taylor McConnell, Chelsea Haines, Breanne and Blaine Johnson; great-grandchildren, Alex and Taelyn Boocock, Seyler and John Eiswerth, Stella Bardis, and Alexis and Rylan Haines; and siblings, Alberta Jean Osborne, of Cabot, David Love, of Midlothian, Va., and Ruth Ann Ferguson, of Hermitage.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church, 1427 Memorial Ave., Williamsport, with the Rev. Robin L. Baer and Pastor Richard DeMarte officiating.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, at the church. Burial will be held in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
