Robert C. Watkins, RPH
MIFFLIN – Robert C. Watkins, RPH, 82, of Mifflin, died at 3:46 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at his home.
Born on Oct. 11, 1931, in Saltillo, Huntington County, he was a son of the late Walter Watkin and Verna (Brown) Watkin-Black, as well as his stepfather, George Black. On Dec. 19, 1953, he married his surviving wife, E. Marie (Greenland) Watkins, with whom he shared more than 60 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his children, Cindy Miller and her husband, Ronald, of Mifflintown, Ronald Watkins, Gregory Watkins and his wife, Barbara, all of Port Royal, Rhonda McLaughlin and her husband, John, of Mifflin, and Renee Dowling and her husband, Timothy, of Port Royal; grandchildren, Alison Miller, Seth Dowling, Caleb Dowling, Neil McLaughlin and Grace McLaughlin; and a great-grandson, Malachi Miller.
One brother, Dr. Walter B. Watkin, preceded him in death.
Robert was a 1949 graduate of Saltillo High School and a 1959 graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.
He was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown, where he held various offices. He was a past president and board member of the Central Juniata Swimming Pool Association. He previously served on the JAM House board.
Mr. Watkins proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
In earlier life, he began his career as a pharmacist with Hiles Pharmacy, Lewistown, and then in 1961, he became the founder and co-owner of Mifflintown Pharmacy, until retiring with 32 years of service to the community in 1993.
After retiring, Bob was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed watching golf, football and baseball. He also enjoyed woodworking, going on long drives and working on his model train layout for his grandsons. His greatest joy and top priority was spending time with his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Kenneth Kitzmiller officiating. After the service, interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at the funeral home.
