Martin A. Berger
HERSHEY – Martin A. Berger, 71, of Lewistown, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
Born Sept. 20, 1942, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Mildred M. (Lerch) Berger.
He is survived by: his wife, Sandra K. (Adair) Berger, whom he married in Sept. 12, 1964; his children, Kenneth Berger and wife, Paula, of Frederick, Md., Frances Mowrey and husband, Jerry, of Diboll, Texas, Stephen Berger and wife, Monica, of Belleville, and Marie Kauffman and husband, Christopher, of Beavertown; eight grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; his sister, Eleanor White and husband, Arden, of Lewistown; and his brother, Larry Berger and wife, Linda, of Lewistown.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannette Rodgers.
Martin was a 1960 graduate of Lewistown High School and was in the National Guard for six years.
He was employed as a contractor for West Haven Homes and then was employed for Servamation Vending. He was employed at Marlette Homes and then drove for Boring Transport from which he retired.
He was a member of the Evangel Baptist Church in Lewistown.
Early in life, he helped with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and assisted in youth programs at various churches.
Martin enjoyed the outdoors, going fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed baseball, NASCAR and hobby trains.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with Pastor David Purdy officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens in Mifflintown.
His family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
