Elizabeth R. ‘Betty’ Leppert
MIFFLINTOWN – Elizabeth R. “Betty” Leppert, 80, of Mifflintown, died at 8:39 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on Feb. 13, 1934, in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Myrtle M. (Kepler) Bachman. On Aug. 1, 1953, she married her surviving husband, Ronald L. Leppert, with whom she shared nearly 61 years of marriage.
Surviving are: her children, Richard L. Leppert and his wife, Debbie, of Reading, Nancy L. Zimmerman and her husband, Randy, of Mifflintown, and Kenneth E. Leppert and his wife, Jamie, of Middleburg; her twin brother, Charles W. “Bill” Bachman and his wife, Sandy, of Lewistown; her brother, John S. Bachman and his wife, Shirley, of McAlisterville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
One grandson, Jason Leppert, and one brother, David Bachman, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Leppert was a graduate of Fayette High School, McAlisterville, and a longtime member of the Juniata Saddle Club. She was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church and attended the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, both of Mifflintown.
In earlier life, she owned and operated the Buster Brown Shop, Mifflintown, after which she worked as a receptionist for Kinney Shoes, Shiremanstown. Betty then worked for Weis Markets, Mifflintown, for 20 years.
Betty’s love of reading led her to visit the Juniata County Library frequently. She also loved her cat “Sweetie”.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Edward Carlson officiating. After the service, interment will take place in the Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
