Americ S. Guerrini

MIDDLEBURG – Americ S. Guerrini, 92, of Middleburg, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 12, 2014, bravely facing the challenge of a recent cancer diagnosis.

Americ was born on Jan. 18, 1922, in Yeagertown, to the late Salvatore and Rose (Ramini) Guerrini, two months following their emigration to the United States from Rome, Italy. He was a graduate of Yeagertown High School and enlisted and proudly served his country during World War II from 1942 to1945.

He retired from the Prudential Insurance Company in 1986, following a successful career of 25 years. His prior employment included working at Standard Steel in Burnham, working as an ironworker, and managing and co-owning two business with his brother Louis, the Tydol gas station in Yeagertown and The Friendly Tavern in Huntingdon.

Americ was member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Selinsgrove, The Middleburg Chamber of Commerce, and served as a past president of the Middleburg Recreation Association.

Americ was a talented golfer and enjoyed the many friendships he developed playing from the 1950s through the 1980s. He was a member of the Lewistown Country Club, winning five club championships, and at one time owned the course record. He was a longtime and charter member of the Shade Mountain Golf Club, holding three club championship titles and working as a volunteer long into his retirement.

Americ was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Audrey (Gunderman) Guerrini who passed away on June 3, 2008, and a sister, Marie (Guerrini) Eby. He is survived by: his son, Samuel Guerrini, of Flower Mound; and his daughter, Margaret Guerrini, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Winifred Dean, of Naples, Fla.; brothers, Louis, Patrick, Frank and William.

Friends and family are invited to the visitation from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by the memorial service, and a lunch reception on Friday, June 20. Visitation and memorial service will be held at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill Street, Middleburg with the Rev. Dr. John W. Betlyon officiating, and lunch reception at The Shade Mountain Winery, Rt. 104, Middleburg.
