Walter D. ‘Husky’ Collins
BELLEVILLE – Walter D. “Husky” Collins, 95, formerly of Belleville, died at 2:15 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at Ohesson Manor.
Born on Jan. 30, 1919, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Shoemaker) Collins.
He is survived by: his wife, Colleen D. (Kearns) Collins, whom he married on April 21, 1945; his son, Scot K. Collins and wife, Esther, of Lewistown; two grandchildren, Holly Dalby and husband, Erin, of Va., and Kelly Varner and husband, Michael, of Burnham.
Husky was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
He was a 1939 graduate of Lewistown High School.
Walter served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Earlier in life he had worked as a lineman for Penelec.
He was a member of Walnut Street United Methodist Church in Burnham.
Husky enjoyed playing football and baseball.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Pastor Mike Sigler officiating.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Interment with VFW Post 7011 military rites will take place in Lind Memorial Cemetery.
