Bette A. Hatten
McALISTERVILLE – Bette A. Hatten, 83, of McAlisterville, died at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin.
Born Jan. 7, 1931, in McAlisterville, she was a daughter of the late Emmett and Marion (Long) Dressler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald B. Hatten, in 1993, four brothers and one sister.
She is survived by: her daughter, Jennifer Varner, and husband, Andre, of McAlisterville; grandson, Trevor Varner; brother, Douglas Dressler, and wife, Deb, of Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Bette was a 1949 graduate of Fayette High School.
Earlier in life, she was a hair dresser and owned her own beauty salon, Bette & Don’s Beauty Shop, for 40 years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in McAlisterville.
Bette loved bird watching, especially red cardinals, and watching cooking shows. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandson Trevor.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Richfield Mennonite Church, with Pastors Joel Snyder and Jodi Strawser officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday at the church.
