Jesse S. Yoder

BELLEVILLE – Jesse S. Yoder, 83, of 4350 E. Main St., Belleville, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Golden LivingCenter – William Penn.

He was born on Jan. 26, 1931, in Belleville, a son of the late Levi S. and Lydia (Peachey) Yoder. His wife, Joyce E. (Peachey) Yoder, whom he married on Sept. 12, 1953, survives at their home.

Also surviving are: his children, Darlene J. Zook and husband, Benjamin, of Belleville, Gary L. Yoder and wife, Beth (Brenneman), of Lancaster, Douglas R. Yoder and wife, Vonda (Metzler), of State College, Sandra K. Peachey and husband, Emerson, of Reedsville, Rodney L. Yoder and wife, Sheri Clifton, of Mountville, and Sherry R. Crosson and husband, Mark, of Reedsville; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Mary Kauffman, Carrie Kanagy and husband, Leo, Matilda Yoder, Sara Gagnon and husband, Erwin, and Dave Yoder and wife, Becky.

Jesse was preceded in death by: a daughter-in-law, Pam (Nyce) Yoder; a granddaughter, Erin N. Peachey; a grandson, Vaughn Yoder; four brothers, John, Norman, Elmer and Lee Yoder; and a sister, Minnie Stolzfus.

He retired in 1992 from dairy farming. After his retirement, he went to work at Kauffman Farm Supply in Belleville, and sold McNess products.

Jesse was a member of Allensville Mennonite Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, teacher and an elder. He was a past board member and volunteer for the Kish Valley Historical Society, a former BMS board member and a former member of the Big Valley Men’s Chorus.

He enjoyed doing wood working projects and spending time with his family.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Allensville Mennonite Church, with Pastors Dewayn Isaac and Bob Zook officiating. His family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, at the church. A luncheon with be served immediately after the memorial service. A committal service will be private and at the convenience of the family.
