Ruth L. Wilson

LEWISTOWN – Ruth L. Wilson, 88, of Lewistown, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Ohesson Manor.

She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Edgar and Mary Woodward. She was the wife of William H. Wilson for 66 years.

Ruth was a 1942 graduate of McVeytown-Oliver Joint High School. She graduated from the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing in 1946, and began her nursing career at the Lewistown Hospital as a general and private duty nurse.

She found her true passion working as a pediatric nurse with Dr. Eleanor Aurand from 1955 to 1983. Few things delighted her more than being recognized by former patients and receiving their appreciation of her abilities to care for them in Dr. Aurand’s office. She retired in 1988 after practicing five more years with the Geisinger Medical Group.

After retirement, she continued using her nursing skills as a volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Ruth was a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church, and later First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choirs and taught Sunday school. She relished the relationships she made through both churches.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: daughters, Margaret W. and her husband, James W. Sickler, of Enterprise, Ala., Ruth W. and her husband, Jonas B. Kauffman III, of Lancaster, and Nancy W. and her husband, Stanford B. Barouh, of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Will Kirby, James Edward Sickler, Rob Sickler, Lucas Kauffman and Daniel Kauffman; and great- grandchildren, Olivia, Wesley, Isabella and Sebastian.

Of six siblings, she is survived by Betty Walborn, of Freeburg, Venarda Young, of Harrisburg, Roy Woodward of Milton-Freewater, Ore., and June Taylor, of Burnham.

A memorial service will be held at noon Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Third St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Karen McCachren officiating.

Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of the arrangements.
