Jonathan D. Kanagy

BELLEVILLE – Jonathan D. Kanagy, 92, of Belleville, died at 4:23 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Valley View Terrace, where he had resided since December 2005.

Born Oct. 10, 1921, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Jonathan D. and Mary (Yoder) Kanagy. His wife, Ruby (Miley) Kanagy, whom he married on Sept. 1, 1946, preceded him in death on Sept. 24, 2005.

He is survived by: his children, Marian Hartzler and husband, Floyd, of Belleville, and Marilyn Schano and husband, Charles, of Gibsonia; and grandchildren, Michelle Hartzler, Bradley Hartzler, Ashley Schano and Nicholas Schano.

He was the last of his immediate family and was preceded in death by: two brothers, Amandus Kanagy and Aaron Kanagy; and five sisters, Lina Peachey, Amanda Kanagy, Elizabeth Yoder, Mary Peachey and Verna Peachey.

Jonathan’s last employment was at New Holland in Belleville, where he retired in 1986.

He was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Belleville. He had attended Locust Grove Mennonite Church and most recently, Valley View Haven Chapel.

Jonathan enjoyed doing wood working projects, taking walks and spending time with his family.

He was a wonderful dad and grandpa and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held in his memory at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Valley View Haven Chapel, with Pastor Max Zook, Pastor Gerald Peachey and Bradley Hartzler officiating. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the chapel.
