John E. MacGill

THOMPSONTOWN – John E. MacGill, 52, of Thompsontown, died at 5:08 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at his home.

Born on June 11, 1961, in Williamsport, he was a son of Maggie R. (Calhoun) MacGill, of Williamsport, and the late Clyde E. MacGill. On Aug. 25, 2012, he married his surviving wife, Janie (Stewart) MacGill, of Thompsontown.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his children, Elizabeth MacGill and her companion, James Hastings, of Williamsport, John E. MacGill II and his wife, Brittaney, of Hanover, and Kimberley MacGill and her companion, Tommy Brock, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four step-children, Marlene Johnson and her husband, Sherm, of McVeytown, Melissa Fry and her companion, Josh Silva, of Shermansdale, Kara Amey and her husband, Justin, of McAlisterville, and James Wilson, of Mifflintown; two brothers, Jeff MacGill and his fiancee, Kim Stacey, and Mike MacGill and his wife, Heather, all of Williamsport; and he leaves behind 15 grandchildren.

A daughter, Amber MacGill, and a grandson, Matthew Harer-MacGill, preceded him in death.

Mr. MacGill was a 1979 graduate of South Williamsport High School. He was a member of the Higher Ground Church in Thompsontown, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 143, Lewistown and proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps.

He worked for several central Pennsylvania construction companies during his career.

John was a gifted craftsman who could fix anything; but, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with Pastor John Foltz and Pastor Mike Erhard officiating. Full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown. A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
