Dwight E. Doyle

HONEY GROVE – Dwight E. Doyle, 86, of Honey Grove, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born Feb. 13, 1927, in Dry Run, he was a son of the late Dale and Rachel (Dougherty) Doyle.

He is survived by: his beloved wife of 65 years, Joyce E. (Kitner) Doyle, whom he married Sept. 5, 1948; one daughter, Debra Jo Doyle of Burlington, Vt.; two grandchildren, Rebecca “Becca” Pilgrim, of Burlington, Vt., and Michael Pilgrim, of Rochester, Minn.; and one sister, Miriam Burkholder, of California.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Sue Doyle, on June 25, 1960, and one brother, Wayne Doyle.

Dwight worked for Kraft Foods for 39 years in Lewistown, Leaman Place, and Chambersburg, where he retired.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Nook.

He had a passion for music and played guitar, fiddle and mandolin with the band, Down Yonder. His fiddle music was the signal that the square dance was starting. Over the years, he accompanied and sang with his wife at many venues throughout Pennsylvania.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, traveling to Buffalo, Wyoming, on hunting trips and going to the cabin in Tioga County.

There will be a graveside service and interment at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Norland Cemetery, 2295 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, with the Rev. Charles Hershberger officiating.

Although there will be no viewing, the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Guss Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 337, Mifflin, PA 17058.
