Charles W. ‘Babe’ Corbin
LEWISTOWN Charles W. “Babe” Corbin, 76, of 4278 E. Main St., Belleville, died at 1:11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 7, 1937, in Belleville, he was a son of the late DeHaven and Dorothy (Russler) Corbin. His wife, Linda L. (Bigelow) Corbin, whom he married on July 16, 1960, survives at their home.
He also is survived by: his children, Shari Spicher and husband, Lee, of Belleville, and Jon D. Corbin and wife, Ellen, of Reedsville; grandchildren, Matthew L. Spicher and wife, Ashley, Lindsey M. Spicher and companion, Andy Miller, Stephanie Corbin, Olivia Corbin and Whitney Corbin; great-grandaughter, Peyton Spicher; brother, James W. Corbin and wife, Betty, of Milroy; and a sister-in-law, Anne Peachey and husband, Glenn, of Belleville.
He was preceded in death by: his daughter, Mona J. Corbin, on Aug. 6, 1973; and grandson, Lucas Spicher, on Aug. 5, 1995.
Babe graduated from Menno-Union High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1959. He was then employed at New Holland until his retirement in 1993. After retiring, he became a fly fishing guide at Spruce Creek.
He was an avid sportsmen. He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing and attending sporting events. He coached Senior Babe Ruth Baseball in Belleville for a number of years. He was very fond of his dog, Bitty.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belleville and a member of Trout Unlimited. He was a former member of the VFW Post No. 5935 in Belleville.
His services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
