William H. ‘Bill’ Fisher
LEWISTOWN – William H. “Bill” Fisher, 74, of 141 Gilliam Road, McVeytown, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Geisinger-Lewis- town Hospital.
Born on March 2, 1939, in Burnham, he was the son of the late W. Cloyd and Estella (Garver) Vaughan.
Surviving at home is his wife, Faye (Sunderland) Fisher. They were married on Nov. 22, 1964, at the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Church and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
Also surviving are: his children, Craig Fisher and wife, Tammy, of McVeytown, Pamela Miller and husband, Steven, of Oley, Susan Stringer and husband, Brian Scott, of McVeytown, Penny Yoder and husband, Curt, of McVeytown, and Linda Mathwin and husband, David, of Centerville, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and two foster brothers, Lee Vaughan, of South Dakota, and Earl Vaughan, of McVeytown.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Oscar Fisher, and a foster brother, Wilbur Coulter.
Mr. Fisher was a dairy farmer in Mifflin County for 45 years and prior to that worked for Viscose Corp., Coble Foods and Agway, all of Lewistown.
During his lifetime he attended both the Newton Hamilton and Atkinson Mills United Methodist churches and graduated from Captain Jack High School in 1957. He honorably served with the U.S. Army.
He was active in the Soil Conservation Services and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Services for 25 years. He and his family were the Mifflin County Farm Family of the Year in 1987, and he also received an Honorary FFA degree three times.
He loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed attending auctions and farm sales.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan, 25, 2014, at Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Pastor Brian Myfelt officiating. Interment will be in the Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
