Thelma P. Harp

LEWISTOWN – Thelma P. Harp, 76, of Lewistown, died at 11:55 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

Born on May 27, 1937, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, she was daughter of the late Lloyd and Pearl (Mort) Rice. On March 10, 1979, she married, George E. Harp, with whom she shared nearly 35 years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 2013.

Surviving are: her children, Thomas L. Harp and his companion, Marie Downer, of Beavertown, and Thelma P.M. Harp and her fiance, Brett Hackenberg, of Lewistown; two sisters, Dorothy Reich, of Thompsontown and Lucille Stydinger, of Newport; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A brother, Ed Rice, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Harp was a homemaker, who also provided child care for many people.

Thelma enjoyed many things such as word search puzzles, cooking and reading “True Stories” magazines. She loved animals, especially cats and dogs.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Timothy George officiating. Interment will be in the Maze Cemetery, Thompsontown.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the church.
