Ernest W. ‘Ernie’ Lauver

McALISTERVILLE – Ernest W. “Ernie” Lauver, 85, of McAlisterville, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Geisinger – Lewistown Hospital.

Born on Feb. 15, 1928, in Richfield, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Oden W. and Emma A. (Hepner) Lauver. On April 9, 1950, he married his wife, Anna M. (Bassler) Lauver, with whom he shared nearly 46 years of marriage, until she preceded him in death on June 30, 1996.

He is survived by: his children, Steven L. Lauver Sr. and his wife, Lynette, of Burnham, Carol E. Schlegel and her husband, Daniel, of McAlisterville, Judy L. Haubert and her husband, Gerald, of Mifflintown, and Diana K. Lauver; and he leaves behind six grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.

One brother, Wayne R. Lauver, and one sister, Thelma M. Vaughn, preceded him in death, making him the last of his generation.

Mr. Lauver was a member of the Richfield United Methodist Church, the NuVisions Center, Lewistown, and a life member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 143, Harrisburg.

In earlier life, he worked for General Electric, in Erie, the Harrisburg State Hospital and later for TRW, Harrisburg. Then from 1970 until his retirement in 1990, he worked as an electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 143, Harrisburg.

Ernest was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and deep sea fishing. He was a wonderful father who always helped his family however he could and the time he spent with his grandchildren meant the world to him.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with Pastor Ken Hepner officiating. Interment will be held after the service in the Richfield Union Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the funeral home, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
