Crist D. Peachey
BELLEVILLE – Crist D. Peachey, 86, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, and formerly of Reedsville, died at 6:02 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on Sept. 27, 1927, in Reedsville, he was a son of the late Crist Y. Peachey and Mattie A. (Yoder) Peachey. His wife, Rhoda M. Peachey, whom he married on Sept. 19, 1953, preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 2011.
He is survived by: children, Sharon E. Peachey, of Reggio Emelia, Italy, Carolyn P. Rudy and husband, Jon, of Manheim, Crist Y. Peachey and wife, Jean, of Manheim, and Willis E. Peachey and wife, Denise, of Reedsville; sister-in-law, Ida Peachey, of Belleville; brother-in-law, Mark King, of Aaronsburg; and 10 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by: a daughter, Rosalyn J. Robinson; two sisters, Carrie King and Dorothy King; and a brother, Mervin Peachey.
Crist was a commercial broiler grower in Reedsville for a number of years. During that same time, he worked for Baker’s Plumbing and Heating, and then for East Gate Elevator, in Reedsville. He also was a school bus driver for Mifflin County School District for 17 years.
Crist had a heart for Christian education. He gave many years serving on the Belleville Mennonite School board. He also served briefly on the board at Valley View Haven.
Crist was a member of Allensville Mennonite Church. He served as a song leader, choir director, elder and Sunday school teacher, at the church. He was also a member of the Big Valley Men’s Chorus and Harmony Four Quartet for a number of years. Crist enjoyed hunting, fishing and building model airplanes. He made a model plane for each of his grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Allensville Mennonite Church with Pastors Robert Zook and Dewayn Isaac officiating. Interment for family and friends will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Allensville Mennonite Cemetery with Pastor Gerald Peachey officiating. A public viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, at Allensville Mennonite Church.
