John P. Cunningham
LEWISTOWN – John P. Cunningham, 88, of Lewistown, died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Golden LivingCenter – William Penn.
Born Dec. 26, 1925, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Irvin and Naomi (Carling) Cunningham.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelda (Cupp) Cunningham, on April 8, 2013.
John is survived by: his son, John P. Cunningham II and his wife, Jamie, of McVeytown; grandchildren, Jason M. Cunningham and wife, Rachel, of Lewistown, and Jenny S. Cunningham, of Lewistown; great-grandchildren, Jacee, Layla, Landon and Blake; his sister, Delores Coudriet, of Lewistown; and his brother, Robert Cunningham, of Lewistown.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
He was employed as a grocery clerk at the A&P Grocery Store in Lewistown for 35 years. He was last employed at Falconer Glass for four years, retiring in 1988.
He was also a caretaker at the Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home for a number of years.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lewistown.
John loved time with his family, especially going to his grandkids’ sporting events. He enjoyed working in his garden with his blueberries and apple trees, hunting and fishing.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Father William Weary officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
