Elizabeth Ellen ‘Liz’ Harris Stroup

LEWISTOWN – Elizabeth Ellen “Liz” Harris Stroup, 74, of Belleville, passed away peacefully on the morning of Nov. 30, 2013, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Liz was born on Aug. 16, 1939, in Stone Valley. Her family moved to Belleville and she graduated from Menno Union High School in 1957. She graduated from Mansfield University with a degree in music education in 1961, and eventually returned to teach music in the Mifflin County School district for more than 30 years.

In her retirement, she was active in the Belleville Civic Club, Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and other volunteer organizations in the community. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William H. Stroup, on Nov. 22, 2012, and her parents William and Isabelle (Keller) Harris.

She is survived by: her daughter, Vera Lynne Stroup-Rentier and husband, Marco, of Topeka, Kan.; her son, Joe Stroup and wife, Kristin, of Millerstown; and seven grandchildren, Jaret, Kenedy and Jordan Stroup, of Millerstown, and Joseph, Jakob, MyaGrace and Ethan Rentier, of Topeka, Kan.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today, at the West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, in Belleville, with Pastor Gerald Peachey officiating. Her family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, at the Henderson Funeral Home.
