Corinne Hart Lyter
MIFFLINTOWN – Corinne Hart Lyter, 90, of Mifflintown, formerly of Port Royal, died Thursday, December 5, 2013, at The Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born Nov. 10, 1923 in Beale Township, Juniata Co., she was a daughter of the late John Wilson and Adda Irene (Milliken) Hart.
She was the widow of G. Lloyd Lyter and is survived by one son, George L. Lyter and wife, Carrie, of New Bloomfield; one daughter, Susan Joann Vayo and husband, H. Westcott, of Perrysburg, Ohio.; three grandchildren, Scott Vayo, of Lynn, Mass., Lynette Irene Vayo, of Johnson City, NY, and L. Isaac Vayo and wife, Lauren, of St. Paul, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Herman W. Hart, and three sisters, Ruth A. Telfer, Beulah M. Shearer, and Grace H. Stuck.
Corinne graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1941 and from the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She was a private duty registered nurse, working primarily in maternity.
She was a charter member of the Juniata Co. Business and Professional Women’s Club and remained a member for many years. She was very active with the Red Cross bloodmobiles, with the Mifflin-Juniata Blind Association, and with the Juniata Co. homemakers. She was also a member of the Matamoras United Methodist Church. She served as a 4-H camp nurse for a number of years. She enjoyed knitting and tending to her roses.
Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown with Rev. Frank Swartz officiating. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Juniata County B.P.W. in care of Sylvia Kepner, Treas., PO Box 326, Port Royal, PA 17082, to be used toward their annual scholarships.
