Merrill B. ‘Ben’ Smith
MIFFLINTOWN – Merrill B. “Ben” Smith, 82, of Lewistown, went home to be with his Lord at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Brookline Manor in Mifflintown, after a three-month battle with cancer.
He was born June 17, 1931, in Yeagertown, to William and Willa (Deamer) Smith.
He is survived by: Savilla J. (Baughman) Smith, his devoted wife of 56 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Michael Fisher, whom he dearly loved; grandsons, Todd and wife, Melinda, and Brian and wife, Nichole; five great-grand- children, Matt, Janelle, Jordon, Dylan and Gavin, all of whom he was so proud and loved dearly; and his sister, Donna Hubler, of Lewistown.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Terry and Bud Smith, and his sisters, Alma Frick and Sandra Taylor.
Ben was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed as an auto body repairman with Newell Ford, retiring in 1970. He was also employed as a body technician for S&S Chevrolet Garage.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, in Lewistown, and a member of the Fame Fire Company.
Ben will always be remembered as a caring and loving person who could make you laugh no matter how bad he felt.
He was also an avid Steelers and Pirates fan.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Juniata Memorial Park, with the Rev. Karen McCachren officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ben’s memory can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
